Identity Theft :
NYS has passed a new law allowing New Yorkers to freeze their credit reports at the three major reporting agencies. By doing this it will be impossible for anyone to open credit cards or take out loans in your name. You must send a certified letter to TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax and request the freeze. If you can prove that you have already been a victim of identity theft there is no charge, otherwise there is a $5.00 charge. The downside to this is that you will not be able to get any new credit yourself, either, until you lift the freeze. This can be done by phone, using a PIN number and there is another $5.00 charge for the temporary “thaw.”
QuickBooks Tip:
If you are using a QuickBooks version prior to 2005 do not update your computer to the new Internet Explorer 7. You will have problems processing transactions in QuickBooks.
You can update your QuickBooks to 2007 or you can remove the IE 7 from your computer.
